May 22nd – Treasure Hunt (Suggested Activity)
Brighten up your windows and get the community out and about with a neighbourhood scavenger hunt! All you will need for this cheery activity are a few willing neighbours and some keen eyes. Get crafty with whatever you choose to stick in your window- for this activity, we suggest making your own flower. Then send the kids out to see what they can spot! Seeing a neighbourhood full of flowery windows is a sure-fire way to spread some joy.
What You Need:
- A group of willing, connected neighbours
- Some simple crafting materials
- A scavenger hunt sheet (optional)
Steps:
Choose a theme
Choose a simple theme that people can easily follow at home. Flowers, animals, love hearts, and outer-space are good examples of something simple people can make at home to stick in their window.
Get your neighbours involved
Get in touch with your neighbours by setting up a WhatsApp, Facebook or email group and asking them all to join, or by passing through a flyer through their letterboxes. This can be particularly useful for people who are not online.
Decorate a flower for your window
No matter what age you are, crafting is a great way to flex your creative muscles and have some fun! Take some time to decorate your own flower to stick in a window in your house, or on the door of your apartment- somewhere where passing neighbours will be able to spot it to mark on their scavenger hunt.
Set a date for your scavenger hunt
That way everyone has a deadline to work towards for getting flowers up in their window.
Create a scavenger hunt sheet (optional)
Your scavenger hunt can be as simple as ‘spot-the-flower’. For amore interactive experience for children, try putting together a scavenger hunt sheet that people can print at home to take with them on their adventure! Include categories like…
- How many flowers can you spot
- Your favourite flower
- The most creative flower
